‘Ohana Engagement
In Kamehameha Schools Preschools, ʻohana refers to any important person in our keiki’s social-emotional world, particularly the parents or caregiving adults, grandparents, siblings, other related ʻohana members, and could include unrelated ʻohana members. It is assumed that a variety of adults will participate in our keiki’s rearing, and that all of these adults are highly valued by keiki and therefore are an essential part of the home
to school connection.
Pilina ʻOhana (ʻOhana Engagement) is highlighted as one of the distinguishing features of KSP’s program. Throughout the year each region develops a schedule of learning experiences and events involving the ʻohana of keiki currently enrolled in the preschool program. Planned workshops are also scheduled to help support any expressed needs in a given community. KSP is committed to recognizing the importance of the keiki’s ʻohana and encourages participation in the Pilina ʻOhana learning experiences and events.
