Physical Development
At KSP physical development, health, and safety are seen as integral parts of a keiki’s well-being and educational growth. As a result, the curriculum addresses gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and personal health, nutrition, and safety.
Keiki development refers to a keiki’s ability to perform tasks of greater complexity as they get older. Physical development in children refers to the development of their motor skills, which involves using all parts of their bodies. In gross motor, the focus in on a keiki’s ability to move in ways that demonstrate control, balance, and coordination. Fine motor skills include strength, coordination, and eye-hand skills.
These skills are important in building the foundation upon which self-care skills, handwriting, and artistic expression mature. The third component addresses a keiki’s growing ability to understand his/her personal health, including self-care, nutrition, and physical safety.
